Nice, Côte d'Azur & Monaco - Day 1 & 2

24 July 2017

At the end of last month, I took a trip to Nice. It was my first solo trip ever and I spent two days by myself and then I was joined by a friend for 2 days. I took my DSLR and I got the chance to take so many photos! Before I show them I wanted to show snaps of the wonderful Airbnb I stayed in and some snaps of what I did for the first two days alone.

DAY 1

Nice Côte d'Azur International Airport

Once I was off the plane I hopped onto the bus 98 which runs along the promenade and I got to see the amazing blue sea and the journey was relatively short. My Airbnb was located so centrally, I had no idea at the time when I was booking it but after finding my bearings it was absolutely perfect! I had a gelato shop next to me, a Paul opposite me and so many supermarkets with a 3-10 minute walk. Plus I was 10mins away from the old town - so good! Below are pictures of my lovely little getaway place and the garden definitely made it. I want something like this in London (one can dream).

After settling I went to the supermarket to get some bits came back had a shower and then promptly fell asleep! My flight was at 9am, so I was up pretty early and I was just shattered. I woke up around half 7 and went for a walk around 8 in search of ice cream from the famous Fenocchio in Nice.

After wandering around some more I went and sat by the beach and just watched the world go by, it was so lovely and it was good to have the time to sit and think. It was super windy though and because I wasn't prepared for that I only sat for 20mins before going in search of food to take back to my new home for the next couple of days.

DAY 2

After a wonderful nights sleep, I got some breakfast and ate it out in the garden. Then I went off to do some more exploring. My plan was to go to Monaco and I ended up walking all the way to the tourist information point before finding out that the bus I needed to take way a 10min walk from where I was staying! But the walk was good and I got to see the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Nice and walk along their version of Oxford Street.

I took the train back from Monaco after picking up some food. I got the train at rush hour so it was packed but it was a  typical huge double decker train that they have in Europe so it wasn't cramped. My verdict on Monaco is meh, the bus journey was lovely because it went along the coast but Monaco itself was nothing special for me but I had a good old wander around it.

and the third portion of ice cream for the day. Safe to I enjoyed life lol. My friend joined me in the evening so this third portion was totally not planned.

I've never been one to use tourist or information centres on holiday because I have everything at my fingertips with my phone but this trip actually made me go into them because I couldn't find any helpful information online! The centre next to the station in Nice is where I found out where I could get the 100 bus to Monaco and then when I was in Monaco my data was atrocious (I did read about this before so a word of warning, I mean I don't know how easy it is get lost in Monaco) on both Three and Vodaphone and I needed directions to the train station. So into another one I went and again super friendly and helpful.

I'll be posting the rest of the photos from Nice later in the week and then another on Monday as per my usual (but not so usual) schedule. I'm excited to share these - this was the best holiday!
