9 awesome phone cases

Tuesday, 6 December 2016

Although I’ve searched for phone cases during the year, I thought with it being gift giving season I would share some of the beautiful and cool (i.e Harry Potter related) phone cases I have found. I think phone cases are a really nice way to show your style or personality and sometimes they can just be so refreshing and inspiring to look at. Mine currently is a PU leather case with a dream catcher, it has such lovely calming colours on it and really just makes me smile when I look at it. I have a Samsung S6 Edge, so it was one of the things I had in mind when I went hunting for phone cases, as a result all of the cases are available for iPhones and some Samsung phones!

(Going from L-R)
  1. The Muggle Struggle is Real - This one has to be my favourite. I love to say “the struggle is real” but I think it’s about time I started saying this. Although it will just be lost on everyone who isn’t a Harry Potter fan.
  2. Always - I really like how simple this one is, the writing looks like something that could actually be a tattoo. I think the case is a lovely reference to HP without being so obvious, you’d only know if you know, you know?
  3. Harry Potter Map Quote - This case is also highly contested to be my favourite, the Marauder's Map in Harry Potter is one of my favourite magic items and I love this nod to it. The colours of the case are also really lovely too.
  4. White Chandelier - I think this case is really dainty and lovely, I think if you’re looking for something that will suit most people this is the case. I feel like most girls would like this because the design is simple but also chic.
  5. More Issues than Vogue - I just love the statement on it and I’m sure most girls can relate to this. The case has lovely colours and patterns running through it and is quite trendy in my opinion.
  6. White Marble Initial - Although I’m not the biggest fan of marble, I really love that engraving on this and I LOVE having personalised things. I think this is the perfect gift for any girl, as the contrast between the marble and the bold engraving just screams chic and it’s a real statement piece but also quite subtle
  7. Harry Potter - I just had to throw in another HP case there, this one is just simple but I think it’s great for HP lovers. I think must like no.2 it has a really lovely simple touch to it
  8. White Marble Mandala - The intricate design on this is what drew me to it, the black really stands out against the white and emphasises the detail in the mandala. It’s an inoffensive and simple case that I feel would suit most girls
  9. Wildflower Quote - The final one is more girly but I love it, the flowers and the quote are just really cute and I think it’s nice to spot people’s phone cases on the tube and see something that’s bright and makes you think

I’m definitely getting myself some HP ones in a bit because I think they are absolutely brilliant. Hopefully you’ve seen something here for yourself or as a little gift for someone.

Skincare hero - The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Mist

Thursday, 29 September 2016

The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Mist

If there’s one thing I’m always searching for in a skincare product, it is the ability to inject some life into my skin. I want all the brightness because I just feel like my skin is dull and lacklustre. To tackle this issue, I decided to pick up The Body Shop’s Vitamin C Energising Face Mist. I’ve actually used this before, probably about 3 years and found it to be a god send then too, I think the issue I have with this and loads of products is I expect it to give more and more glow, whilst I’ve probably reached the ultimatum level of impact that product can do. But anyway, The Body Shop states that the product is:

  • For dull, tired, grumpy skin
  • Vitamin C rich camu camu from the Amazonian rainforest, Peru and it;
  • Refreshes and enhances natural radiance
The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Mist

The Body Shop Vitamin C Energising Face Mist

I picked this up before a 13 days holiday that involved me travelling to 5 different cities ( 5 plane journeys + train journeys) and I knew the constant travelling wouldn’t be kind to my skin, so I just wanted to ensure I was feeding it with good stuff in my skincare routine. I used this as a toner and only that, on the website it does say you can use it on the go, which I take to mean over make-up as well, however I don’t think I would put this over my make-up as feel it can be quite tacky and doesn’t spray evenly enough for me to regard it as setting spray.

So I use this in the morning and sometimes in the evening, it’s been a week and a bit since I’ve gotten back from my holiday and I just feel that my skin just looks revived. My skin is less dull looking to my eye and just looks healthier. The application is quite smooth, but as I mentioned before it’s not an even spray so I do 3 pumps and then spread it over my face with my hands, then give it a minute to set in. It does feel a bit tacky upon first touch but once it settles it is fine, however over make-up I’m not sure how you’d remedy the tackiness as I wouldn’t rub my face if I had foundation on.

I definitely think it’s the perfect pick-me-up product for your skin and can easily be added to your routine because of the easy of product. With Autumn coming up, I feel like my skin is going to need all the moisture and radiance and I think this nifty bottle is a great way to ensure that. Being a vitamin C product, the brand have decided to ensure it smells of ALL THE ORANGES, this doesn’t bother me too much as once the spray settles into your skin you can’t actually smell it – but seems like a waste to just an orange fragrance to a product because it’s got all the vitamin C!

I think the retail price is also great you get 100ml worth and this can last you well over a month and half if you’re using it once a day. I like to compare it to my La Roche Posay Serozinc, that retails at £7.90 - £9 and is 150ml, whilst the TBS product is more expensive it serves a different purpose and has more ingredients. They are in a similar bracket to each other and although there’s less in the Face Mist, they are so close in price that I think it makes them comparable. I’m happy to pay around the £10 for toners so I really think this one is a bargain, especially as it is multi-use and can be use over make-up (if you choose). Also as this is 100ml if you're travelling with just hand luggage this is perfect as it meets the requirements.

So good points:
- Makes skin radiant
- Easy to apply
- Budget friendly

So that’s my review on what I’m hailing a ‘skincare hero’ – I thought this might be a great thing to share especially as it’s getting colder in the UK. I’m not really trialling anything new on my face at the moment, but if I find another little gem, I’ll be sure to share.

Happy Autumn! Are there any skincare heroes for you this autumn/winter?

Sephora wishlist

Friday, 26 August 2016

It kinda feels like yesterday when I did my American wishlist and now I'm back with another! I'm off to Europe for 13 days next week and I will be visiting 4 different cities. I also plan to hit up Sephora wherever I can and I have a few things that I have actually been lusting after. Fingers crossed they have them as I'm not sure how wide the selection is in Europe. I'll hopefully be visiting other drug stores whilst I'm there to pick up other brands.

1. Elizabeth and James - Nirvana Bourbon:  I'm ready for a new fragrance and when I saw this come up in the Sephora newsletter I was like that sounds so nice. I'm typically drawn to sweet scents and I feel the scent emodies a bit of that but with a more woody smell. I'm really intrigued to try it out.

2. Sunday Riley - Martian Mattifying Melting Water-Gel Toner:  I have a desperate craving for something by Sunday Riley and watching a video earlier this week about on the of oils has only cemented that. However I am in great need of a new toner and I'm hoping to pick this up (hopefully in duty free). I love toners and I think this will be the one to give my skin that extra bit of hydration this winter.

3. GlamGlow - Tinglexfoliate Mud Mask: I actually picked up this mask when I was in NY, but the smaller version and I loved it. I want to repurchase the smaller version again as it last me a while and I'm too stingy to fork out for the larger one with everything else that I want. If you haven't tried anything from the GlamGlow range I recommend this one!

4. Peter Thomas Roth - Glycolic Acid 3 percent Facial Wash:  I've become really obessed with this brand, especially after my 5 mask purchase in NY. When I learned about this wash I was super intrigued - glycolic acid in a face wash?! I know a face wash doesn't stay on your skin for very long but I still think this product will be beneficial.

5. Clinique - Moisture Surge Extended Thirst Relief: I am in desperate need of a new moisturiser. I don't need it to have an SPF in it because I use a separate factor 50 one, but I just need something that will keep my skin hydrated and not make me oily. Clinique seems like a good brand to depend on and this moisturiser has been making the round in blogs recently so I think I need to snatch it up for myself. That or the HydroBlur one.

6. Make up For Ever - Artist Rouge Lipstick: I actually want a particular shade of this lipstick but I couldn't seem to find it when I looked, but as soon as I got the mailer from Sephora I thought, 'I have to have that colour.' Hopefully I'll be able to hunt it down and pick up a few others, as well as a foundation from MUFE. I tried to get one in NY but they didn't have my colour.

So that's my little wishlist. Knowing me I'll probably end up with 10 more things that weren't on the list and curse myself when I will be eating noodles for the next two months. Let me know if there's anything I should keep an eye out for when I'm in Europe!

Bedroom inspiration - bohemian themes

Saturday, 16 July 2016

I love Pinterest for all the wonderful ideas it can give you for just about anything. Although I'm not largely fussed about interiors I do have a whole Pinterest board dedicated to the ones I come across because they can always be saved for future use. The one thing I have found myself gravitating towards recently is bedroom interior, particularly those with a  bohemian theme. The colours and the patterns are just so warm and inviting to me, I've always been admirer of these things but it's something that never translated through to my personal style or living area because I just prefer to keep things simple. However after looking at loads these designs, I've decided it's time for a little rehaul. I'm starting small though and just starting with my bedding, in all of the ones I've come across it's the bed area that's always got me. It makes jumping into bed much more inviting!

So I did a bit of searching and thought I'd share some of the things I've found incase you're inclined to get some bits for yourself!

Where to find it: eBay | Royal Furnish | La Redoute
I found loads by just typing 'mandala bedding' or 'mandala sheets'

You can follow me on Pinterest here. I can't wait until I have a place of my own to start really doing some interesting work around my place.

Let me know if you're on Pinterest too and what your favourite boards are!

My NYC trip

Monday, 30 May 2016

So I wanted to share a few snaps that showed my trip to New York. I've decided not to do a rundown of what we did on different days (I'm sure are things that I shouldn't even mention) but I will split the pictures by location/activity. I absolutely loved New York and I felt so fortunate to be able to celebrate my birthday there with some wonderful friends - I seriously cannot wait to go back! There was so much that I didn't do so another trip will have to be on the cards!

My birthday!

Times Square

Empire State Building

American Museum of Natural History
I spent the morning of my birthday here - I felt like a little kid but I absolutely loved the place.

Staten Island Ferry to see the Statue of Liberty

The ones that don't fit in anywhere else

This had me and my friend in stiches

On our first night we stumbled across this place called The Blind Barber

View from the hotel room opposite the memorial centre

Last drink in New York at The Rum House

Yankee Stadium

So that's my trip - 5 epic days of no sleep, loads of walking and feeling really blessed.

5 things I'm grateful for

Monday, 2 May 2016

So in 4 days time I'll be 25! I'm only excited about this because I'll be celebrating it in New York, a city I've always wanted to visit. I'm not really quite sure why, considering I think London is too crowed but it's something I wanted to knock off my bucket list. I'm so happy that I'm excited for this trip and my birthday because that was exactly my intention when I decided I want to be away for my birthday. I didn't want to dread it, and now I'm really not - I'm looking forward to a magical day and night with some great friends.

Turning a quarter of a century old isn't a huge deal, but it kind of is so it brings some thoughts with it and I just thought I'd note them down to look back on. Tbh when I was 13 with suicidal thoughts running through my veins I didn't ever think I'd reach 25, so honestly for me to be excited about it is a real 360 for me. I feel like I've grown, but at the same time still the same. I mean currently my hair is a brassy blonde and I don't even know if I'll have the time to fix it before I fly...

#1 my family
I don't speak too much about family because it's a sensitive subject for me but I am lucky that I have two nephews that have given the word family a real meaning for me. It's also meant that I'm much closer to my sister and she has been a wonderful rock for me in the past 4 years in my time of need. But I'm really grateful that I have two nephews (4 and 3 and there's another on the way) who make me so happy. They're full of love and energy and never tire of giving me cuddles on request. Sometimes I feel like they're my own and part of my recovery is for them, so they get the best parts of me and not the miserable side. They are my strength and my joy.

#2 my resilience
I know this may seem like a strange one, but I've bounced back from so many set backs and generally fought to get to where I am now. I've always though resilience was a great trait but I didn't realise how much of it I had until I was going through my therapy sessions. It's kept me alive, so it must be good!

#3 my friends
Most of my friends are basically like family, but they still deserve their own section. I just have a bunch of lovely human beings who make me laugh, smile, cry and occasionally make me angry, but they are all amazing people. I am by no means a horrible friend, but I'm sure I'm not the easiest person to be friends with because I am so closed off but I have such a wonderful and understand support team. I just do not know where I'd be without some of my friends.

#4 my career
I use this word with trepidation, but I really feel like I've landed a good job this time. I wouldn't even say I really have a career at the moment, but I do have a job that I enjoy and I'm surrounded by good people. I'm grateful for the experiences I've had in my different roles, my last one taught me that I am capable of so much more than I ever thought I was. I'm really not sure where I'll go next but at the moment I feel 100% content in my career/job path.

#5 my health
Bit of an odd one for me. But I've realised I'm quite blessed when it comes to my health, not my mental health be you win some you lose some. But aside from the weight gain, I've had no serious scares of any kind on this side of my life. Although I do think I now need to start taking much better care of my body to ensure that it stays this way!

I hope this has inspired you to think about some of the good things in your life - gratitude is awesome and I'm looking forward to the next chapter in my life. What are you grateful for?

American wish list

Sunday, 24 April 2016

I have less than two weeks until I'll be touching American soil (this also means in less than two weeks I'll be 25). There are so many things that I cannot wait to do in America and I can bet you the first thing I'll do is just run around screaming "I'm in America" but after all that has worn down, I shall be hitting the shops. Oh man, I'm excited for the food and ofc the make-up shopping. Most of the people I watch on YouTube are American, so I get to see a lot of great releases that never ever make it to this side of the pond. Therefore, I have a budding list and when I get to America I intend to spend to my hearts content. I have so much on my list and the below is not the complete list but just thought I'd share.

1. Covergirl Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer - I can actually get this via Amazon but I think it'll be much nicer to go and see it for myself and get the perfect shade for me. I'm really excited to get some Covergirl stuff as it just reminds me of when I was younger and used to watch America's Next Top Model and the prize was a front page feature on Covergirl.

2. Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation - I think I just really like the sound of this foundation because of the name. Again I could just order this online, but I'm going to Sephora anyway so I'll be able to test different shades. I hope it's as good as it's name sounds, I've heard mixed reviews about it on Youtube, so it'll have to be one that I try for myself.

3. Peter Thomas Roth Retinol Fusion PM - What's a post from me without some skincare? Ever since I tried the Pumpkin Enzyme mask (I'll be picking that up too) I've been lusting over this. I just wanted to pick it up in the states at a cheaper price.

4. Cover FX Custom Cover Drops - This product was all over YouTube a couple of months ago and I actually think it's a fab idea for a product. I defintely want to pick one up so I can work with some of those foundations that aren't the right colour for my skin.

5. ABH Contour Kit in Tan to Deep - I'm not 100% sure that I'll pick this up yet. I just want to see how dark the shades are and whether it will  be suitable for my skin. I really want to perfect my contouring technique, so if I don't invest in this I'll certainly try for something similar.

6. Covergirl Ready Set Gorgeous Foundation - I'd love to have more drugstore foundations, so I certainly want to pick this up and I'm just hoping because it's America they'll have more shades available in the drugstore.

7. Sephora Face Masks - I've actually already tried the Sephora face and eye masks, but I will certainly be stocking up on some more! I think these are just so inexpensive and handy to have at home for pamper days. Sephora have a huge range of mask to address most skincare issue.

8. Glamglow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment - I've always wanted to pick this up but the price has always been a huge factor for me. As I'm basically making NY my no expenses spared trip, I might just pick this up and not worry about the price tag! Everything I've heard about this product has been excellent so I just really really want it.

9. L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation - I'm pretty sure this is available in the UK, but again betting they don't have a huge shade selection. I really want to try a cushion foundation but I also don't want to spend loads of money on it, so this is the perfect option. If I get my hands on it - definitely expect a review!

So that's my list, well about 1/3 of my list - I know I'm just going to pick up so much stuff it'll be ridiculous. Please pray that my suitcase is not overweight on my way back. Have you been to New York? If so I'd love some tips about things I totally have to see when I'm there!
