Review: Antipodes Organic Resurrect Facial Toner and La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Face Ultra-Light Fluid SPF50+.

13 August 2018

Well, I haven’t posted for a while but I’m back with a skincare related post! How long has it been since one of these? I can’t even remember but all I know is you’ve seen loads of me prancing around London and other parts of the world, so today I thought I’d bring it back to one of my favourite things - skincare - and share my thoughts on some products I’ve been testing out.

In this post, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on the Antipodes Certified Organic Resurrect Facial Toner and La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Face Ultra-Light Fluid SPF50+. I ordered both of these products 2 months ago and one day of me posting it. Last week I finished the Antipodes product but I'm still going strong with the La Roche-Posay sunscreen.

Antipodes Certified Organic Resurrect Facial Toner

I’m not really sure why I bought this toner, I know I just wanted a change from using my Serozinc so I decided to get a bit fancy and this was discounted at the time.

I didn’t dislike this toner but much like toners of this nature I didn’t feel like it did anything, it was more of a nice to have and I think that’s also evident in the product description ‘A beautifully refreshing toner that harnesses the positive energy of sweet sage and offers immediate moisture and hydration to dry and stressed skin.’

I don’t think this toner has many ingredients that will help your skin, so if like me you expect your toner to be exfoliating then this won’t be the product for you. This toner is more about providing your skin and your senses with a quick pick me up, toners of this nature are usually quite refreshing and aim to keep your skin hydrated throughout the day (as long as you keep spritzing). It also is supposed to provide your senses with a sense of calm with the lavender scent. I think this product is well aligned to what Antipodes stands for, the natural vibes, organically sourced, free peace image with products that will calm you as well as help your skin. However, if you’re looking for a product with results, this won’t be the one for you. I didn’t hate this product I just wouldn’t purchase it again because I want more from my toner than scent and marketing. However, if you have the coin to spend, I’d get this because it definitely is needed during this recent heatwave.

Highlights:
  • Smells great
  • Keeps skin hydrated
  • A spray – no faffing about with cotton rounds
Downside:
  • No real skin benefits
  • Expensive for what it is

La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL Face Ultra-Light Fluid SPF50+

I am currently loving this sunscreen! Obviously, I can’t say how well it performs until many years later but I can comment on how it feels etc and why I think it should be your next sunscreen purchase.

Firstly, this is made for the face, a lot of sunscreens are these days but it’s really important! However, sunscreen is typically heavy and if like me you have oily skin you don’t want anything too thick or anything that will block your pores.  This product is lightweight well ‘ultra -light’ as they put it and is created for normal to combination skin, plus it is non-comedogenic so you don’t have to worry about it clogging up your skin!

Secondly, the product absorbs into your skin so fast without leaving a white cast! It dries leaving your face moisturised but you don’t feel like your skin is chalky or that it has a film on it. For me, this is so important because having oily skin I don’t like to have products just sit on my face. Personally, I think you need less than a teaspoon and it covers your face and neck and just sinks into your skin. I don’t tend to wear foundation day to day, so I really can have this as my last thing and then do my eyebrows etc, but when I do wear foundation I find this sit perfectly underneath it. It doesn’t pile up or feel like an extra layer.

My third and last point is about the quantity, this product is 50ml and has lasted me over two months with daily use, I use it every morning and have used it on holiday too and it shows no signs of being empty. I think with something like sunscreen you have to be willing to pay that little bit more to protect your face, so whilst I do think this is great value for money, I also think that it’s actually a fantastic formula that allows you to protect your skin whilst still being decently priced. It’s factor 50+ and included UVA and UVB protection.

Like I said I can’t comment on how effective this in the long run but I do know if you want a product that you can easily take in with your hand luggage, that is lightweight, isn’t sticky and doesn’t leave a white cast then you should definitely give this a go. This is definitely in my skincare hero set, it’s taking a while but I’m slowly building up the right products for my skin!

Highlights:

  • A non-greasy formula
  • Sinks in instantly
  • Great price point
Downside:

  • None that I can see at the moment – it’s a win!

Have you tried any of these products? Or is there anything you think I should try?
