Empties #3

20 April 2015

So I am back with another empties post, I haven't done one since December, so I thought now would be perfect. These are my favourite kind of posts to write and read, and watch on YouTube because I feel you always get people’s honest opinions on a product! Even though I love writing them I do get annoyed at hoarding things I no longer need to keep, so I’m very happy I’ve been able to use up a bunch of stuff and share them with you today.

Dr. Jart+ V7 Cleansing Foam – I got this in my November Birchbox (btw I no longer get Birchbox after terrible service around Christmas time) and remember talking about it here and saying that it reminded me of those bar soaps you get for your hands. It still does. I actually used this entire product up but it’s not something I would purchase again, it didn’t leave my skin dry or break me out but I just did not like that feeling of dryness when I rinsed it off.
Would I repurchase? No

First Aid Beauty Deep Cleanser with Red Clay - I’ve already done a full review of this here and whilst I enjoyed using this product, I honestly thought it was a bit pricy for the “results” I achieved. I didn’t think it dramatically helped my skin, but it didn’t leave me with dry skin or break me out. I think it is good for doing a deep cleanse like the name says, but for me personally it’s not something I feel I need to buy again.
Would I repurchase? Maybe

First Aid Beauty Facial Radiance Pads - Another First Aid Beauty product, I was sucked into this by the hype but honestly for me it didn’t do anything! I do enjoy experimenting with acid toners but in all honesty this product does not contain a high enough amount of acid or have the right PH levels to really exfoliate your face. I get that it’s made for sensitive skin, and I don’t have sensitive skin, but it is not effective enough in general especially with such a price tag. That said I loved that it was soothing and didn’t sting my face. It also lasts a long time, especially if you’re not using it every day.
Would I repurchase? No

Botanics All Bright Cleansing Toner - I purchased this because I read on someone’s blog that it was a good alternative for the Pixi Tonic Glow (after doing my research I won’t be buying Tonic Glow anyway). I can’t say if that’s true, but this is a good toner. I don’t think there is anything special about it and I couldn’t tell if I actually got any brightening effects from it but the bottle lasted me a long time and it really did help to restore moisture to my skin after I washed my face. This is an inexpensive and inoffensive toner that does a good job, it’s gentle and as it’s not marketed as an acid toner it’s perfect for everyday use.
Would I repurchase? Maybe

Trilogy Organic Rosehip Oil - I was really excited when I got this product, as I’d heard so many good things about it and it was meant to be really good for hyper pigmentation. I actually really love this product, I really like the smell, it is an odd one but I just really like it. I spoke about in my ‘Journey with Serums’ post and how after a week of good results, I didn’t really see anything else from it. I know it takes a while for something like this to improve hyper pigmentation and after 3 months I can’t say I’ve noticed a huge differences, but I do feel like this oil injects a good amount of moisture back in to my face. I even took to using on the top of my shoulders to help with some of the marks on shoulder. I think it’s a great product and it last for a long time, but you have to be prepared to wait a while for the results.
Would I repurchase? Maybe

Botanics Shine Away Mattifying Day Cream - I purchased this cream at the same time that I bought the above toner. At first I didn’t like this cream, I kept thinking it was making my skin oilier, but after a while I really grew to like it. It’s the first moisturiser that I’ve used that contains SPF 15, so yay for me in that department. I like this cream because it’s moisturising enough for my skin and actually it doesn’t make me any oiler. I personally don’t think it mattifies my skin; it just makes it look normal. It’s so inexpensive and perfect for my face in the morning in the summer and in the winter. This has become a staple in my skincare routine.
Would I repurchase? Yes, I already have!

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion - Ahh I LOVE this product. My friend actually uses this for her skin but I’d never noticed it until after I purchased it. I actually bought this after watching Shirley B Eniang’s video when she said that it helped with some marks on her arm. I have marks on my arm and tbh it didn’t help me with that, but what this did do was fix an annoying patch of dry skin I developed about three months ago. I never get dry skin, but for some reason (it could be my bra) I developed a rash between the area of my boobs, it just got worse and even though I went to the doctor it still did not go away. One day it got really dry and cracked (I moisturise every day btw) and it was so bloody itchy, at that point I put E45 on it just to soothe it. Then I got this cream to help with the dryness and it saved my skin! That area between my boob’s looks like it did before I got the rash and I’m just so impressed by this cream. I’m not used to having dry skin anywhere, but I did use this all over my body for a while just for that added moisture, if you have dry skin this will be great for you.
Would I repurchase? Yes. This is actually my second tube of this cream, so trust me I love it.

Shea Moisture African Black Soap Deep Cleansing Shampoo - Shampoo is something that you’ll rarely see me talk about on this blog because my hair is in a weave most of the time, but I just had to talk about this wonderful product. For the past two years or so I’ve noticed that when I’ve had a weave in the front of my scalp would get these scabs on them, and me being me means I would pick at them and then end up with a bloody and raw scalp. I know you’re thinking how did I get to my scalp through a weave? I’m determined trust me! Even when I took a break from weaves, I still had a little bit of that issue. I was also getting quite a bit of dandruff and my hair is incredibly dry so I did some research and came across this product. I’ve been using this for over a year and it’s made such a huge difference. I actually can’t remember the last time I would have picked a scab off my hair. This product is great because it’s a deep cleaning shampoo and as I don’t wash my hair very often it does such a great job of removing dirt and build up. Its sulphate free and most importantly it’s targeted to all the issues I face with my hair. It’s a bit expensive but it’s last me for such a long time that I really don’t mind. I purchased mine on Ebay, but you can now get it in Paks, or probably any other African hair shop, no idea if it’s Boots etc!
Would I repurchase? Yes, I'm going to get it with the conditioner this time.

So that was long but I hoped this has helped you if you've been thinking about getting any of these products.

  4. I've heard the Cleansing Milk face thing is actually really good, but I think the rest of their products can be pretty mediocre!
