February Books!

16 February 2014

Kindle Daily Deals is my enemy. Everyday it seems there is a new book I must have. Currently I have books to read and I know I’ll just keep buying more with every deal.

So this month I am aiming to read 3 books. I’m a pretty avid reader anyway, but I have set myself a goal on Goodreads to read 40 this year. Last year it was 50 and, due to university and finding some books so boring that I avoided them all, I didn’t reach my goal. So this year I went lower and hope to make it. If I find I might actually go over, I’ll change my target. Anyway so my three books this month are:

A Whole New You - I am a sucker for self-help books. I’ve read so many that my life should be in top tip shape; alas this is sadly not the case. I really have read A-LOT of self-help books, and yet I still continue to read more and more (and more). This was on the Kindle Daily Deals for 99p, so even though I gave up reading self-help books about a year ago (it just got boring) I figured I could give this one a try.

12 Years a Slave – With the film having come out recently (December I believe) the book has obviously been making the rounds, and as it will take me about a year to even watch the film I thought I would snap up the book. Films that have been adapted from books tend to be incredibly cheap with the release of the film, last year or so, I bought ‘Life of Pi’ on the Kindle for 20p. Yes 20p. So I was certainly swayed by Kindle Daily Deals price of 49p!

Life After God – I picked this up at a charity store when I was dropping off come clothes. I love buying books at charity stores because they are cheap and I end up buying books I never would have come across. Buying at a charity shop really does mean judging a book by its cover for me (and the blurb, I’m not that bad) so it’s always full of surprises for me.

My hope with this whole thing is that I can bring you book reviews after I’ve read them. I have always wanted to review books but the truth is I’m lazy, so all my thoughts about the books go un-talked about! So no promises, but hey if that doesn’t work out at least you’ll have an idea of what I’m reading this month (which is something everyone wants to know).

February Wishlist!

9 February 2014

So as my love of YouTube and make-up/beauty has grown I have a long long list of items I wish I had right now, but will definitely be acquiring at some point!

February Wishlist

1. Leighton Denny Crystal Nail File. I heard about the nail file whilst watching Alix at I Covet Thee's Best of 2013 video. Amazon describes this as 'the Rolls Royce of nail files.' I'm so convinced! And I know it's steep for a nail file but it's reusable so obviously worth the price.

2. Himalayan Detox Salts. I have wanted this ever since I read a review Adrienne from The Sunday Girl did. Then Anna from Vivianna does Makeup mentioned it in her Best of 2013 video and I was like 'oh yeah I wanted that.' I am forever having trouble sleeping and everything I've read about this makes me think it will work for me. So I need it. Pronto.

3. Urban Decay Cannonball Waterproof Mascara. Claire from heyclaire talked about this in her 2013 beauty favourites video and for some reason I thought 'I just have to have that' so it's here. The description on the UD page pretty much make me want even more too 'Mermaids can now sing their siren songs with abandon, and high maintenance types can cry all they want.'

4. YSL Rouge Volupté Shine Fuchsia in Rage 19. I found out about this through Karima at Shameless Fripperies' YouTube channel. How frikkin gorgeous is this colour?! I think it's actually something I would have to go and try on first, which is bothersome to me as I haaaate shopping, but I'm hoping I'll love it because I just love all the swatches I've seen of it.

5. Nars Laguna Bronzing Powder. I have heard so many people with different skin tones praise this and from the swatches I have seen, I just know that I have to have it. Absolutely gorgeous.

6&9. Make Up Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation & Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation. I have heard so much about these two everywhere. I need a good foundation and these seem to come up in everyone's top 5/10's. I cannot wait to have at least one of them! Again these are both things I need to go and try on, which loathe, but it will have to be done. Even though the Make Up Forever one seems to be located miles and miles away from my house.

7. Urban Decay Naked Palette 2. So I am new to all make-up related things, but one thing I have seen flying around the past couple of months is the UD naked 3 palette. Obviously with its new release people have been swatching and reviewing it, so I was intrigued to see what 1 and 2 looked like. And I've decided that number 2 has my heart.

8. Anastasia Brow Wiz. Again another product I have heard soo much about and I currently have my Maybelline one, but I really want to try this one out. I've heard so much about it on YouTube and it really does look simple and easy. I just have to figure out my colour!

Remington Style Works Wand Kit

6 February 2014

When I was in my teens I loved straight hair, like dead straight hair. I just couldn't get enough of it. Probably about 4 years ago I started to realise actually it wasn't so great, it was just plain boring. So now I like waves or loose curls. I've had wavy weaves or just had straight ones and curled them myself. Basically I just feel like hair has to have something to it, although realistically on most days I run a brush through my hair and leave it at that.

So before Christmas I purchased the Remington Style Works Wand Kit

I had others in my basket, but in the end I actually just went for this because everything was purple and it came with the extra bits! Seriously I get so stressed out when it comes to comparing things and choosing what I think is best.

So we have:
1 curling wand
1 paddle brush
2 clips
1 heat protect glove
1 compact mirror

In all honesty, I'm really happy with my purchase. I am by no mean a pro when it comes to hair (like I said before brush and go) or tools but of course this was easy to use and I got the curls I wanted.
Here was the result when I first tried it, I actually rushed it because I had somewhere to be, but this is it without brushing it out:

I have tried it other times but to be honest I forgot to take better pictures of the curls, but here are some.

Anyway I'm really happy with the curling wand, when I am bothered to do my hair, I love using it. So I'm glad I finally have a curling wand in my possession. For the price it's great and it does what it's supposed to do.

My main problem though, is finding something to hold the curl; I currently use VO5 Strong Hold Weather Resistant Hairspray, which couldn't be far from the truth. Even when I'm at home the curls drop. I sprayed this in for a night out on New Years and possibly an hour and half later, my curls dropped! Does anyone have any good recommendations for holding sprays?
