Last weekend my boyfriend and I headed off to Oxford for a belated birthday celebration for him. We were on a quest to find a pub room that had an amazing bath (his idea) because I frikkin love them, good food and nice places for walking. We ended up choosing The Bull Inn in Chalbury and it ticked all those boxes. I’m so glad he looks for these important things, I would have been happy with just a comfy bed! We had such a wonderful stay (with the roll top bath being the highlight, seriously look at my interior board to see how much I love baths) that I just had to review the place. I also took my DSLR with me and used the weekend to practice, so you'll have to forgive me for any out of focus shots! I shot on my 18-55m lens and a 50mm lens.
You walk into a very cosy looking pub and then through the outdoor area and then behind it is what they call they ‘The Bull Barn’ and it has either 5 or 6 rooms. We stayed in ‘The Lair’ and it was stunning. Everything is one room though and that wasn’t something we were expecting, but we had an amazing bath and then a shower on one side and then other was a huge bed, nightstands, drawers, a tv and a tea and coffee making side. We dropped our bags off as soon as we arrived, had some prosecco and then headed off to explore the area.
The walk around was lovely and then it was time to come back and make use of that bath! They have Neal’s Yard products everywhere so I very quickly got over the fact that I didn’t bring a bath bomb with me! The bath is huge and it’s only made me want to get about 10 baths for my future home! I drank prosecco, put a face mask and submerged myself into the lovely bubbles. After that, it was dinner time and the food was okay, I think my boyfriend enjoyed his a lot, for me it was nothing to write home (or here) about.
The bed was huge and so comfortable and I had a great night’s sleep (I think all the red wine I had at dinner had something to do with that). Although we were woken up at around 6am by what could only be described as elephants walking above us, but I plugged in some headphones and went back to sleep! Breakfast came with the room so in the morning we had a menu we could choose from as well as juices, teas, coffees and cereals to choose from. Overall the stay was just fantastic, it was £150 for the one night and was a lovely treat - obviously the bath just made the whole stay for me.
I’d definitely recommend a stay here and visiting the deli that’s next to it! I picked up some white chocolate millionaire shortbreads that I just cannot stop thinking about, the picture of the cake above is also from there. The Bull Inn is located in such a good place as it's super close to the train station but if you drive it's also great because you can easiyl go to Oxford for a visit andd it’s just on the edge of The Cotswolds so you can take a drive there if that takes your fancy.
